“Building Sustainability”: A Man’s $1,500 10’x10′ Tiny Home Journey

Rob Greenfield’s home is primarily constructed from repurposed or vintage items. Choosing a life that deviates from the norm requires courage. People often fail to comprehend the appeal of a simpler, off-the-grid lifestyle.

Rob is about doing his part to protect the planet. He aimed to demonstrate that one can be content with less material possessions. His Orlando, Florida, small house measures in at a mere 10 feet by 10 feet. Its interior is really sparse.

The construction cost was a mere $1,500!

Curious as to why the price is so low? To be fair, Rob recycled some materials. The flooring and timber he used came from retailers and neighbors that were clearing out their inventory. These items were purchased by him at a discount. Thoroughly sourced from secondhand shops are even his windows, door, and furnishings. As an example, his chair was merely $15!

There isn’t a lot of room inside the little dwelling. Some shelves hold Rob’s food, toiletries, and clothing. An raised bed with drawers beneath it is also at his disposal. He uses his bed as a couch as well. Preserved in Ziploc bags, he stores some food in a chest freezer for future use.

Rob’s neighbor supplies power to his home. It costs him merely $10 per month. Without heating or cooling, he must adapt to whatever weather that comes his way. Even in the dead of winter, he stays cool thanks to his windows.
