Mark Wahlberg’s Super Bowl appearance leaves people “embarrassed” – and everyone is saying the same thing

Beyond the field, this year’s Super Bowl has sparked conversations, and one ad starring Mark Wahlberg has sparked controversy. The famous Hollywood actor and devout Catholic worked with Jonathan Roumie to market the app Hallow.

“For the first time ever, join over 100 million people in prayer during Super Bowl LVIII.” The arena screen then showed Wahlberg’s expression of thanks. The commercial sought to showcase Hallow’s objective of bringing people closer to faith by providing prayers on the go since its introduction in 2018.

Some people were confused and embarrassed by the commercial, which was posted online despite the app’s popularity. While discussing the Super Bowl, one analyst made fun of Wahlberg for making sure Ben Affleck didn’t make Boston seem bad. A third person asked whether they overheard Wahlberg say “stay prayed up,” while another person commented on how strange Wahlberg’s involvement was.

Despite Wahlberg’s vocal support for the cause, the commercial elicited mixed emotions from viewers, illustrating the vast range of opinions on the topic of religious preaching using celebrities at a highly publicized event like the Super Bowl.
