The daughter builds a beautiful and accessible small home so that the elderly mother can live independently!

Like having family around to help with various things as one aged.

Most people wish to be independent and not depend on them.

Merle, an elderly woman, returned to Victoria to be with her family.

She wanted to live in her own home, though.

Ferne, a small-house designer, constructed a home for her elderly mother.

She created many lovely homes, but this one was exceptional. It was for Mom.

The magnificent 23.5 x 8-foot cottage was designed for the elderly mother.

Merle has easy access to the house through wide doorways with ramps.

Even the kitchen countertops were designed for Merle’s height.

Merle’s age was considered in the design.

Handrails are on the walls in case Merle needs balance.

Ferne designed the house with every detail in mind.

They may demolish this lovely terrace if they moved or sold.

However, the farmhouse’s stunning view makes it hard to contemplate leaving.

The breathtaking scenery will never bore Merle.

The cherry on top. Ferne additionally insulated the roof and walls to make Merle’s winters easier.

Screens prevent insects from entering. They’re in Australia.

The ramp entry primary screen is motorized.

Merle simply presses a button to raise or lower it.

Ferne let Merle choose the interior colors and decorations, so her mother felt like everything belonged to her.

The elderly mother chose wood, giving the house a more open feel.

 

Since Ferne understood the need of underfloor heating for the elderly, she installed it.

Merle can move freely on her level, non-slip floor.

 

Merle’s bed is cool. The bed lifts to the ceiling with one click during the day.

Motor works on 12-volt battery with wall-mounted channels.

 

Ferne installed cupboards in the walls and inserted drawers for Merle’s convenience.

Despite walking, Merle navigates her home easily.

 

She can access her bedroom, kitchen, and bathroom without stress, which is important for her age. Merle says her daughter gave her the finest house ever.

Ferne has done her best work in her mother’s home.

 

Design is excellent. Her elderly mother can still move stylishly, which is useful and amazing.
