You should first learn about the local zoning laws.
While many large cities continue to maintain strict restrictions on what can be built on private property, some are loosening their policies on tiny homes in an effort to boost the availability of housing.

On a city’s zoning map, zoning restrictions are frequently displayed beside a property’s address. Perform a quick Google search using the terms “zoning map” or “zoning office” along with the name of your city.

You could get in touch with the city’s planning and building division if you are still encountering issues.
