This Couple Built an Adorable 80-Square-Foot Guest Cabin for Just $700
We had assumed that we had seen every charming tiny house possible when this one, which may be the cutest A-frame cabin ever, appeared.
This tiny hideaway was built as a guest house on the grounds of photographer Alla Ponomareva and her husband Garrett’s Missoula, Montana, home. The original plans were created by tiny house builder Derek “Deek” Diedricksen, who built his version for $1,200. However, Alla was able to reduce the cost of her A-frame to $700 by using repurposed materials they already had lying around their property, such as window frames, logs, nails, and boards.
Alla and Garrett were prepared to take on this “big” tiny house project because they had already completed a few do-it-yourself projects. They finished their adorable cabin in just three weeks. Alla writes on her blog that the feature that she found most appealing about the design was how one wall could be raised, adding extra square footage to the tiny building in the warmer months and adding to its overall attractiveness.
The movable wall of the A-frame is transparent as well, so even when it is closed, lots of natural light can enter. (In case you’re concerned about insects, Alla says that during the summer, when the cottage is mostly used, mosquitoes are practically nonexistent.)
There are two single beds inside along with trinkets with a country motif. According to Curbed, guests are forced to utilize a portable solar shower and a neighboring outdoor toilet as the tiny home lacks a bathroom or running water. However, the house has a solar-powered outlet and the beds can be pushed together to create a larger full-sized bed, giving it a comfortable place to sleep.
