A plumber fixed the boiler of a 91-year-old terminally ill woman and billed her $0
A plumber is currently going viral for his heartwarming mission to help the elderly and vulnerable by fixing their plumbing free of charge.
While many people in a community could benefit from a little help, we all know that those who need it the most are often the elderly, disabled, or vulnerable. Unfortunately, due to fear of being seen as a burden, these individuals seldom ask for help—even when they truly need it.
James Anderson, originally from Liverpool, is changing that. Known for his selflessness, James has made it his personal mission to provide free plumbing services to those in need, and he’s even promised his customers “free plumbing for life.” But he’s not doing this to seek recognition or praise; his goal is simply to “be a human race and look out for each other.”
Despite gaining viral attention for his acts of kindness, James insists that he isn’t in it alone. He credits his success to a “community effort,” stating that his actions are a reflection of the support he’s received from others, and he feels the responsibility to pay it forward.
Although he has gained a great deal of attention for his generosity, James explains that it’s not about fame or profit. For him, the joy comes from making a real difference in people’s lives. “It makes me feel human, humble, and a little giddy inside,” he says. The plumber adds, “I want to expand this service across the country. I will never give up the fight.”
James hopes to expand his free plumbing services beyond his hometown of Burnley, and the attention he’s receiving through his viral story has already begun to attract help from others. “I’ve got other plumbers offering help,” he shares. “My hope is to get Depher national, in every city and town.”
James’ inspiring story has resonated with many, including other plumbers who admire his generosity. One such plumber, Bruce Drury, shared his thoughts on James’ work, saying, “Your story of James Anderson, the caring plumber who charged $0 for repairing an elderly lady’s boiler really was a pleasure to read.”
Bruce, who is 63 and semi-retired, recalls his own experience in the trade, noting that he too would offer significant discounts or sometimes even no charge for jobs that were small or quick to complete. He says that his boss, who had an ailing parent, understood the importance of helping those in need. “Our job is extremely hard, and dangerous at times, giving our services to the elderly is something they truly appreciate,” Bruce adds. “Hands up to you, James, you are setting a great example for our fellow plumbers.”
In a world where many are focused on personal gain, James stands out as a shining example of selflessness. His actions remind us all that small acts of kindness can have a lasting impact, and that a helping hand can truly make a difference—especially for those who are most vulnerable. James’ mission, along with the support of others who share his vision, is making the world a better place, one pipe at a time.
