The Reflection in the Water

Ethan had designed this getaway to be his sanctuary. A sleek, modern home in the middle of the woods, complete with a pool that shimmered like liquid glass. Here, no one could reach him. No memories could haunt him.

Or so he thought.

It started with the ripples. Still water should stay still, but every evening at sunset, waves formed—small at first, then stronger, as if someone was stepping in. Yet, the deck remained empty.

Then came the reflection.

One night, while sipping his whiskey by the pool, Ethan glanced at the water. His own face stared back, but behind him, in the house, a shadow moved. He turned quickly—nothing. But when he looked back at the water, the shadow was closer.

A whisper filled the air.

“You can build walls, Ethan… but I will always find you.”

His glass slipped from his fingers, shattering on the deck. The reflection in the pool no longer matched his movements.

Someone else was watching.
