“It’s fully furnished,” the seller had said. “Just… never stay in one place too long.”
Jake assumed they were warning him about permits.
They weren’t.
The First Night: The Footprints
The first night in his new home, Jake parked in a quiet forest clearing. The air was crisp, the stars bright. It was perfect.
Until morning.
He stepped outside, stretching—then froze.
There were footprints in the dirt.
Bare, human footprints. Leading around the house.
