Soon after, she starred in Gidget Grows Up, which led to her breakout role on Room 222. The show, airing from 1969 to 1974, earned critical acclaim for its diverse cast and socially conscious storytelling. Valentine and co-star Michael Constantine both won Emmys in 1970.“It felt surreal,” she recalled, sharing moments like meeting Carol Burnett and getting a thumbs-up from Gregory Peck.

Though Room 222 ended after four seasons, Valentine continued working steadily in TV and stage, appearing on shows like The Love Boat and Murder, She Wrote, and later co-starring in the 2004 film Wedding Daze.

Now in her late 70s, Valentine looks back fondly: “Room 222 gave me everything. I’ll always be grateful.”
