Unexplained bruises? Here’s what your body might be trying to tell you.
One morning, you discover a bluish mark on your arm, leg, or hip. You search your memory for the moment you might have bumped yourself… but no impact comes to mind. If this happens to you often, it might be time to pay attention to these little signals your body is sending you. Because behind a simple bruise, there can be much more than just a forgotten bump.
Why do bruises form?
Bruises, or hematomas, appear when a small blood vessel (capillary) breaks under the skin. The blood seeps into the surrounding tissues, creating this characteristic coloration, initially blue or purple, which turns green, then yellow before disappearing naturally.
But when these marks become frequent, very visible, or slow to heal, it may be helpful to investigate the cause.
